1972 Marshall Bruce Mathers III, later known as Eminem, is born on Oct. 17 in St. Joseph, Mo. Marshall's mom, Debbie Mathers, soon moves him and younger half-brother, Nate, to Warren.
1986 - 1989 Eminem attends Lincoln High School in Warren
1992 Eminem's uncle Ronnie commits suicide. Close to Marshall's age, Ronnie was more like a brother. He turned Marshall on to hip-hop. His death was devastating to the aspiring rapper.
1993 Eminem starts showing up at rap freestyling events at Detroit's St. Andrew's Hall and the now defunct Hip-Hop Shop.
1995 On December 25th Eminem's high school sweetheart gives birth to their daughter, Hailie Jade.
1996 Eminem released his first LP "Infinite" which got a poor criticism by many as Eminem being a rapper he wasn't.
1997 Eminem competes in the LA Rap Olympics and takes second place in free style rap. The single "5 Star Generals" by Shabaam Sahdeeq featured Eminem and helped him gain a larger underground audience.
1998 Things started picking up for Eminem when Dr. Dre heard him on a L.S radio station and signed him up to his Aftermath label. Later that year "The Slim Shady EP" was released which would be the starting point for Eminem's fame today.
1999

February - Eminem releases the "The Slim Shady LP" which debuts at No.2 on the Billboard charts, selling 283,000 copies. The hit single "My Name Is" is the cause of this sudden burst.

March - Eminem hit the top 40 with his single "My Name Is" and soon had civil rights organizations complaining about his lyrics on "The Slim Shady LP"

April - "The Slim Shady LP" goes2x platinum and tops the Billboard R&B Album chart for a week.

June - Eminem and Kim make it formal and get married on June 6th

September - Eminem's mother sues her son for $10 million based on negative accusations made about her and his childhood. Things picked up when at the MTV Music Awards Eminem won the Best New Artist Award and was nominated for Best Male Video and Best Direction "My Name Is" and Breakthrough Video "Guilty Conscience".

October - "The Slim Shady LP" goes 3x platinum and Eminem was nominated for 2 MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Breakthrough Artist and Best Hip-Hop Artist.

November - The MTV European Music Awards went well when Eminem won the Best Hip-Hop Artist.

December - Things started getting personal amongst the family when Eminem's grandmother was upset with her grandson's plan to use recordings of her deceased son. The plan to incorporate his uncle's voice was later dropped.

2000

January - The Brit Awards are here and Eminem was nominated for 2, Best International Newcomer and Best International Male Solo Artist.

February - Eminem wins 2 Grammy Awards for Best Rap Solo Performance "My Name Is" and Best Rap Album "The Slim Shady LP". Apart from that he was also nominated for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group "Guilty Conscience" with Dr. Dre.

March - Eminem and Dr. Dre reach the top 40's with "Forget About Dre" from Dre's 2001 Album.

April - A few awards come Eminem's way including Online Hip-Hop Awards for Best Artist Web Site, Best New Artist, and Hottest Music Video "Guilty Conscience" plus he won a Detroit Music Award for Outstanding National Album.

May - "The Marshall Mathers LP" is released and sells over 1.76 million copies in the first week making a new record for a solo artist and by the end of the month "The Marshall Mathers LP" hit #1 in Canada. "The Real Slim Shady LP" hit the Top 40 and the video hit #1 on MTV's Top 20 Video Countdown.

June - "The Marshall Mathers LP" continues to rise and topped the Pop LP charts for 8 weeks, the R&B LP charts for 4 weeks, and Internet Album charts for 2 weeks. By the end of the month "The Marshall Mathers LP" goes 5x platinum. "The Real Slim Shady" hit the Top 10 and stays at #1 on the MTV Top 20 Video Countdown. During this time Eminem was arrested for fighting a man he see's kissing hs wife and a few days later he was charged with 2 felony weapons charges. The charges include carrying a concealed weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. The man then filed a civil law suit against Eminem for his injuries soon after the encounter.

July - Eminem appeared in court for the June incident and was charged with felony possession of a concealed weapon and misdemeanor public brandishing of a firearm. He receives three years probation for the incidents. Eminem's wife tries to commit suicide by cutting her wrists at their Sterling Heights home whilst Eminem was away. Later that month "The Real Slim Shady" topped the UK charts for a week and "The Marshall Mathers LP" topped the UK charts for 2 weeks.

August - The courts were busy in July when Eminem's mother sues her son again for $1 million. Eminem turned down an offer to settle the court case and left his mother getting next to nothing. By the end of the month Eminem filed for divorce from his wife and was hit with a $10 million defamation lawsuit from her. In the music world Eminem topped the MTV Top 20 Video Countdown with "The Way I Am", was nominated for a MuchMusic Video Music Award for Favorite International Artist "The Real Slim Shady", won a Source Hip-Hop Award for Lyricist of the Year and Music Video of the Year with "Guilty Conscience" and "The Marshall Mathers LP" was certified 6x platinum.

September - Eminem had a good month taking home 3 MTV Video Music Awards for Video of the Year, Best Male Video "The Real Slim Shady", and Best Rap Video "Forgot About Dre" with Dr. Dre. The video for "The Real Slim Shady" was nominated for 2 Billboard Music Video Awards for Maximum Vision Video and Best Rap/Hip Hop Clip of the Year. He then went on to win the MuchMusic Video Award for People's Choice Favorite International Artist, "The Way I Am" hit the Top 40 and "The Marshall Mathers LP" went 7x platinum.

October - Eminem went to perform in Canada and efforts were made to stop him due to an investigation of violating the country's hate-crime law. Nothing interfered and everything went ahead as planned.

November - Another good month for Eminem when he hit the Top 40 with "Stan" and also hit #1 on MTV Top 20's Video Countdown. "The Slim Shady LP" went 4x platinum, he topped Canada's MuchMusic video chart with "The Way I Am", won 2 Billboard Music Video Awards for Maximum Vision Video and Best Rap/Hip-Hop Clip of the Year and also won 2 MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Hip-Hop Act and Best Album. He was then named 'Artist of the Year' by Spin magazine and took home a 'My VH1' Award for the Most Entertaining Public Feud "Eminem vs. Everyone".

December - "Stan" hit #1 in the UK charts for 1 week and topped the Billboard Year-End Charts as the Top Billboard Male Artist. By the end of the month "The Marshall Mathers LP" was recognised as the 2nd biggest selling LP in the U.S. with sales of over 7.9 million copies. The year then ended with Eminem and Kim sorting out their problems and getting back together.

2001

January - "The Marshall Mathers LP" goes 8x platinum at the start of the new year and he gets nominated for 2 American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist. Things weren't completely smooth when Eminem's four Grammy nominations for "The Marshall Mathers LP" cause protests from women's and gay groups who find the albums content offensive.

February - "Stan" tops the Canada MuchMusic Chart and wins 3 Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album with "The Marshall Mathers LP", Best Rap Solo Performance with "The Real Slim Shady" and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group with "Forgot About Dre" with Dr. Dre. He also gets nominated for the Album Of The Year and performs "Stan" with Elton John only to lose the Album of the Year to Steely Dan. He also gets nominated for 2 Soul Train Music Awards for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Album with "The Marshall Mathers LP" and Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video with "Stan" and wins a Brit Award for Best International Male Artist. the assault case from last year appeared again with Eminem pleaing guilt felony possession of a concealed weapon allowing for an assault charge to be dropped.

April - Eminem pleads guilty to charges of carrying a concealed weapon and gets a 2 year probation. He also wins 2 Detroit Music Awards for Outstanding National Album and Outstanding National Single and 2 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards for Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Rap Artist.

May - "The Marshall Mathers LP" wins a Juno Award for Best Selling Album and Kim files for another divorce from Eminem.

June - The incident from last year arised again when Eminem receives 1 year of probation for gun charges which get added onto the previous probation sentence of 2 years in April. Eminem's D12, release "Devil's Night" which goes to No.1 on the Billboard charts selling over 372,000 copies in its first week.

September - Award time for "Stan" which wins a Source Award for Video of the Year and gets nominated for 5 MTV Video Music Awards.

October - Eminem steps into films and starts filming "8 Mile".

November - "Stan" gets nominated in the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Song and Best Male Act whilst Eminem wins an award for the Best Hip-Hop Act.

December- The UK has "Stan" as the Top Single for the year.

2002

April - The lawsuit against the man who Eminem was accused of assaulting gets settled.

May - "The Eminem Show" was released on the 26th May and goes straight to #1.

June - "The Eminem Show" sold over 1.3 million copies in the first week of release and tops the Billboard 200 Albums chart, the Internet Album Sales chart, the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and the UK and Canadian LP charts. "Without Me" then hit the Top 10, and topped the Billboard Top 40 Tracks chart for 2 weeks aswell as topping the UK Singles chart for a week. By the end of the month "The Eminem Show" goes 4x platinum.

August - "The Eminem Show" goes 5x platinum and "Without Me" wins 4 MTV Video Music Awards including Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Rap Video, and Best Direction. "Cleanin Out My Closet" then hit the Top 40.

September - "Cleanin Out My Closet" then hits the Top 10 whilst "The Eminem Show" gets certified as 6x platinum. Eminem's film "8 Mile" get received well at the Toronto International Film Festival.

October - "8 Mile" hits the theaters on the 8th and pulls in over $54 million in its first weekend. The soundtrack for "8 Mile" goes down well and in its first week sells over 700,000 copies topping the Billboard 200 LP chart, the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop LP chart, and the LP charts in Canada. Eminem then won 3 MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Male Artist, Best Album with "The Eminem Show", and Best Hip-Hop Album. "Lose Yourself" then topped the MTV Video Countdown, the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 12 weeks, the Hot 100 Airplay chart for 11 weeks, and the Top 40 Tracks chart for 11 weeks and was in the Top 10 ranked #1 for over 3 weeks by the end of the month.

December - 2002 came to a good end with "The Eminem Show" getting certified at 7x platinum and "8 Mile" 3x platinum. "The Eminem Show" was the top selling LP of the year with over 7.6 million sales with "8 Mile" reaching number 5 with over 3.5 million sales. "Without Me" topped the MTV Video's of 2002 and Eminem topped the Billboard Year End Charts as the Top Billboard 200 Album and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album with "The Eminem Show", Top Billboard 200 Album Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album Male Artist and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album Artist.

2003

January - Awards came Eminem's way at the beginning of the year when he won a People's Choice Award for Favorite Male Musical Performer and won 4 American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, Favorite Hip-Hop/R&B Album, and Favorite Hip-Hop/R&B Male Artist. He also got nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Original Song for "Lose Yourself" from the film 8 Mile film and the Fan Choice Award. His single "Superman" hit the Top 40 and the "8 Mile" soundtrack went 4x platinum.

February - More awards in February with 2 Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album with "The Eminem Show" and Best Music Video plus 2 Brit Awards for Best International Male and Best International Album with "The Eminem Show". He featured on 2 albums in February firstly on 50 Cent's debut LP "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'' and on the soundtrack for Cradle 2 The Grave with "Go To Sleep".

March - "Superman" rised to the Top 10 and "Sing For The Moment" hit the Top 40. He then won an Academy Award for Original Song for "Lose Yourself" and "The Eminem Show" went 8x platinum.

April - "Sing For The Moment" went from the Top 40 into the Top 10 and "The Eminem Show" won a Juno Award for International Rock Album of the Year.

May - "8 Mile" gave Eminem 2 MTV Movie Awards for Best Actor and Best Breakthrough Performance.

June - Eminem won a MuchMusic Award for Favorite International Artist and "Lose Yourself" and "My Name" went in at #4 and #85 in the VH1 100 Best Songs of the Past 25 Years.

August - Naminations for Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Rap Video, and Viewer's Choice appeared for the video "Lose Yourself" and the MTV Video Music Award for Best Video from a Film was won for this song.

October - Best Pop/Rock Artist and Best American Pop/Rock Male Artist World Music Awards were won by Eminem.

November - Eminem was nominated for an American Music Award for favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist and won an MTV Europe Award for Best Hip-Hop Artist.

2004

February - Eminem's nomination for Song of the Year was the first time a rap song had been placed into this category. He won 2 Grammy Awards for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song with "Lose Yourlsef" and his album "The Marshall Mathers LP" went 9x platinum.

October - Michael Jackson requested that the video for "Just Lose It" (which just hit the Top 10) should be stopped playing on video channels due to many aspects which offended him. A few channels stopped playing it but most just ignored it. "Lose Yourself" went Gold whilst Eminem's new single release "Mosh" attacks George Bush and his decision to go to war with Iraq.

November - "Encore" is released early like before and tops the UK and Canadian LP chart. It jumps straight to the top of the Billboard 200 LP chart for 4 weeks and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for 2 weeks and sells over 700,000 copies in 3 days flat. The album then hit the Top 40 with the single "Mosh" reaching the Top 40 aswell.

December - "Encore" was now 4x platinum and was the 3rd biggest selling LP for the year never mind it was only released the previous month with sales of over 3.5 million. It topped the Billboard Internet Albums chart and his single "Mockingbird" jumped up to the Top 40.

2005

January - The start of the year had Eminem's single "Just Lose It" go gold and "Like Toy Soldiers" hitting the Top 40.

February - "Like Toy Soldiers" hit #1 in the UK charts whilst "Mockingbird" jumped into the Top 10. "Just Lose It" gave Eminem another Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance and was certified platinum.

March - "Just Lose It" was now certified platinum giving adding another platinum achievement to Eminem.

May - Yet another platinum for Eminem with "Mockingbird" and 2 more golds for "Without Me" and "Like Toy Soldiers".

June - "Just Lose It" now goes to 2x platinum and his single "Ass Like That" jumps into the Top 40.

July - Eminem was said to be retiring from releasing any more LP's and tours with his last concert taking place in Dublin on September 17th. It was later made clear that Eminem is spending some time away from his own music to spend more time developing new artists.

August - 2 more nominations and 2 more awards came when Eminem won 2 Teen Choice Awards for Choice Rap Arist and Choice Rap Track with "Mockingbird" and was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Rap Video with "Just Lose It" and Breakthrough Video with "Mockingbird".

November - Encore was nominated for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album and Eminem won another American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist. The single "When I'm Gone" also jumped into the Top 40.

December - "Curtain Call" was released with 3 new tracks and all the previous hits and as usual topped the Billboard 200 LP chart, Top Digita Albums chart, UK Chart and Canadian LP chart. It sold over 440,000 copies in the first week of being released. "When I'm Gone" rose into the Top 10 from 40 and topped the Bilboard Hot Digital Songs chart. "Shake That" with Nate Dogg now jumped into the Top 40.

2006

January - "Curtain Call" reaches 2x platinum in just over a month of being released and Eminem re-marries Kim Mathers.

February - "Shake That" rose into the Top 10 from the Top 40 and Eminem gets nominated for 3 more Grammy Awards for Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Rap Album with "Encore".
